‘How is that legal?’ was the first question that most netizens asked after a Reddit user shared about the ‘leave policies’ that her company recently introduced. As per the Reddit post, the employees received a long email, which was about the organisation changing its previous leave policies. As per new policies, the company was allegedly discontinuing ‘sick and casual leaves’, and replacing them with ‘hospitalisation leaves’. Explaining the ‘hospitalisation leave’, the email stated that it will only be granted in situations where hospitalisation will be required. The email further clarified that employees taking ‘hospitalisation leave’ will also have to submit proper hospital documents.Apart from ‘hospitalisation leaves’, the company also introduced ‘Annual
pain leaves’, which the employees can take for their vacation or other uses. “The leave will be credited 1 day per month, totaling 12 days per year,” the email read.As soon as the post was shared online, it went viral, sparking a major discussion over ‘workplace toxicity’, ‘employee exploitation’, and more. Many also raised questions on the very nature of the policies, calling them ‘possibly illegal’.
