A late-night cab ride in Kolkata has struck a chord online, not for drama or controversy, but for a simple act of kindness that many say feels increasingly rare.A dashcam recording circulating on social
media shows a cab driver going out of his way to make sure an intoxicated woman passenger reaches home safely. Throughout the journey, he remains composed, reassuring and attentive, even as the woman repeatedly expresses her anxiety about her condition. In the footage, the woman can be heard saying, “Uncle, can you get me home safe please? I am very drunk," to which the driver calmly responds, “I am here. I will take you to your home safe." As she continues to worry aloud, he gently reassures her again, saying, “I know you’re drunk, beta. Please keep quiet, and I will take you to your home." She replies, “I will try to keep quiet," prompting a light laugh from the driver as he repeats, “I will take you home."
At one point, when the woman receives a call from her mother, she hands the phone to the driver. He speaks directly to her, explaining that her daughter is on the way and even shares his live location to ease her concerns. After the call, the passenger mentions that her mother will scold her for staying out late, to which the driver responds with gentle humour, “She should. You’re acting like a spoiled brat."As the journey continues, the woman thanks him for his care. The driver brushes it off modestly, saying, “It is my duty, no need to thank me. It’s my job. I take money for this." The video also captures him assisting her at the end of the ride — opening the gate and waiting until she safely enters her home. The video quickly drew praise from viewers, many of whom applauded the driver’s conduct. One user commented, “The education and culture of the driver bhai are highly impressive and worth remembering." Another wrote, “These types of men are really a gem, and it’s really good that you have recorded and posted it to inspire others. Great man."
