A
startling late-night incident near Dimapur Railway Station in Nagaland has sparked widespread concern online after a Mahindra Thar was seen stranded on active railway tracks. The episode, captured on video by bystanders, has since gone viral on social media, prompting questions about driver responsibility and public safety.According to a report by The Morung Express, the SUV, registered as NL-01/CA-8181, allegedly entered the railway tracks from the MXN side of the station and proceeded towards the Dimapur Railway Station platform area. The vehicle reportedly came to a halt on Line No. 1 near the old flyover on the Burma Camp side, unable to move forward.
Authorities later identified the driver as 65-year-old Thepfuneituo. Police officials stated that the vehicle had been driven onto the railway tracks in clear violation of safety regulations, a move that could have resulted in a serious accident had a train been approaching at the time. The Thar was eventually removed from the tracks, restoring safety for railway operations, the driver, and the public.Videos circulating online show the black SUV attempting to navigate the tracks before losing traction and getting stuck. In the background, voices can be heard warning others as a crowd gathers near the scene. The visuals quickly drew attention online, triggering debates around reckless driving and the misuse of high-powered vehicles.Social media users were quick to react, with many expressing frustration over what they see as irresponsible behaviour. One user wrote,
"Driving a Thar doesn't mean you can cross every limit; at that moment, if a train had come, it could have been disastrous." Another commented,
"Some people think owning a Thar gives them the right to drive anywhere." A third user questioned the pattern, asking,
"why always Thar.''
