Only in Bengaluru can a landlord ask for a security deposit in lakhs and a lease commitment exceeding not one, not two, but almost 3 years! In yet another ‘typical Bangalore incident’, a man’s apartment hunting story turned into an online discussion on how most Bengaluru landlords are making just about any demand in the name of renting flats. Taking to Reddit, the tenant shared a short conversation he had with a landlord. As per the screenshot of the texts between the two, it was the Redditor who had reached out to the landlord to ask for basic details and requirements– only for the landlord to ask him for a deposit in lakhs and a lease commitment of 3 years. As per the Reddit post, the landlord was demanding Rs 10 lakh “refundable security deposit”,
which was “slightly negotiable”, along with a “minimum of 3 years lease commitment”. The rent, on the other hand, was “Rs 60,000”, along with “maintenance of Rs 5,000.”“Will you be agreeable for a Rent of Rs 60,000 per month + maintenance of Rs 5,000 and a refundable security deposit of 10.0 Lakhs (slightly negotiable)?” the landlord’s text read. “We are also looking at a minimum of 3 years' lease commitment,” he added. The Redditor naturally did not take the conversation forward. The post, however, went viral and left netizens reacting in multiple ways. Most commented on the new rental laws that have been passed recently, while others dubbed it ‘landlord mafia’. Times Now could not confirm the details and the authenticity of the post. Check out the viral post: The post was shared on Reddit, by the handle ‘r/bangalore’. The post was shared a few days ago and pulled 5K views from people.
