A video shared by travel influencer Arpita Sahu from Himachal Pradesh’s popular tourist town of Bir has reignited conversations online around women’s safety while travelling in India alone or in groups. The now-viral clip, posted on social media, allegedly shows the influencer confronting a man whom she claimed had been following her and her friends for an extended period during their outing in Bir, a destination widely known for paragliding, cafes, and backpacker tourism.According to the influencer, the group first became suspicious after repeatedly spotting the same man near multiple locations they visited. As the discomfort reportedly grew, the women decided to record the interaction and directly confront him on camera. In the video, the influencer can
be heard saying, “Right now I am in Bir, and I am here travelling with my friends, and there was this guy who was following us for half an hour. He was following us wherever we were going.”She further alleged that the group had observed the man trailing them across different spots in the town. “Show his face. He has been following us from 2-3 places. He has been noticing us for a long time. We have been noticing that wherever we went, you have been following us,” she said.
The incident appeared to leave the women visibly shaken and frustrated. Questioning why women often have to remain alert even while travelling, the influencer added, “Why can't you let us be? We are not comfortable in our own country.”Another woman travelling with her also accused the man of attempting to deny the allegations after being confronted. “He had the audacity to pretend that he was not following us,” she said in the clip. The women also expressed exhaustion over what they described as a recurring experience faced by many female travellers. “I mean, why guys? Live and let live. Can we do that, please?” the influencer said, while her friend remarked, “Will you guys devour us?”Following the video’s circulation online, social media users flooded the comments section with reactions. While many users demanded stricter safety measures and better policing in tourist destinations, others called for a proper investigation into the incident. The clip has once again sparked wider debate over how safe women feel while travelling across the country, particularly in popular tourist hubs frequented by solo and group travellers.
