‘You Can Resign’: New Mother Recalls Conversation With HR, Calls Corporate ‘Curse’ For Motherhood

‘Blatant lack of support’ is one of the last things that a new mother or a new working mother can expect from the company she is working for- yet that is exactly how this woman ended up feeling, after her HR allegedly refused to extend her “unpaid” maternity leave for her prematurely born baby. Taking to social media, the woman recalled her conversation with the HR, where she had asked her to extend her maternity leave by a month. She was ready to take “unpaid” maternity leave for a month or two, after getting paid maternity leave for six months. However, her HR not only refused the leave request for more than “15 days”, but also allegedly began to talk about the possibility of a “resignation and notice period”.As per the distressed woman, the conversation left

her feeling like her company was "subtly" asking her to “resign”. “They were pressurising me in a subtle way, that I can resign if I want. They were asking repeatedly about my plans, that if I resign, then I will have to serve a one-month notice,” the woman said.The woman then stated how it feels like corporate jobs hardly support new working mothers and often try to push them away.“I feel that Corporate forces you in subtle ways to leave, if you are a new mother and if you are on your maternity leave. It makes such scenarios that you feel like resigning. Because if I have taken a 6-month leave and I am asking for another month’s leave without pay, and if there is sufficient staff, then what exactly is the problem?” the woman further asked.The video went viral in an instant, pulling many reactions.
