An Uber ride in Fiji recently turned into an unforgettable encounter for Indian entrepreneur Nav Shah — one that left the internet deeply inspired. What seemed like an ordinary trip quickly became a story
about humility, purpose, and success beyond wealth.Shah’s driver that day was an 86-year-old man whose calm demeanour hid an extraordinary life story. Curious, Shah asked him, “How do you pay your bills?” To his surprise, the elderly driver responded, “I am a businessman, and my company does a $175 million turnover.”The conversation unfolded further as the driver revealed that he has been sponsoring 24 girls every year for the past ten years — all through his Uber earnings. “I have three daughters. I gave them a good education; they’ve done well. So I thought, if I can help other girls achieve their dreams, why not?” he said with a warm smile. As they continued talking, the man shared that his family business was vast and decades old: “We own 13 jewellery shops, six restaurants, a local newspaper, and four supermarkets.” When asked whether he had started it all, he replied proudly, “My father started in 1929 with five pounds he had.”
