An incident from Uttarakhand’s Pauri district has sparked a heated online debate after Maroda village Gram Pradhan Veera Rawat alleged she faced inappropriate remarks and misconduct from an elderly villager during an official inspection. The controversy deepened after a video showed the man later touching her feet and apologising following her police complaint, leading to divided reactions on social media.Veera Rawat posted the full video of the incident on her YouTube channel and explained what had happened. She claimed that on May 12, she was on an inspection in the village when she learned that a man was spreading false and derogatory rumours about her character in other villages. She said, “I simply asked him why he was saying things like,
‘The head hangs out with boys’ or ‘The head has a bad character.’ I explained to him that whenever an officer or employee comes to the village, as the head, I have to accompany them on an inspection of the village; this is my responsibility, and there's nothing wrong with that. But instead of listening to me, the man suddenly became angry and began abusing me in a loud voice. Suddenly, he grabbed my hand and began forcibly dragging me towards the cowshed. He repeatedly said, ‘Come, I'll take you inside the cowshed.’ I tried very hard to free my hand, but he wouldn't let go. At that moment, I was terrified and completely mentally shattered.”She further said that, as a 24-year-old woman and elected village head, she had never faced such disrespect in her life.
