Mostly, buying a wet or a damaged book is not exactly what people prefer to do– however, when a local Bengaluru bookstore decided to host its first ‘wet book fair’- ‘overwhelming success’ is all that it ended up receiving! Confused? A rainfall that hardly lasted for an hour on Wednesday night turned into a nightmare for the IT Hub of India, in ways that many did not see coming. Power outages, property and infrastructural damages, casualties and flooding- Wednesday night and Thursday turned all about alarming headlines for the city.Amid all the same, a local and rather beloved bookstore- The Bookworm on Church Street- was also one of the worst hit properties, as it lost almost ‘4000 to 5000’ books to flooding. However, just a day after the tragedy,
the way the city ended up coming forward to show its support– is what everyone is currently talking about! Allegedly, book lovers in Bengaluru are coming forward to buy the books that got wet in the flood, at a slightly discounted price– to support the store.Pictures of wet books being displayed in the sun were shared online, which immediately went viral. Most loved how everyone showed their love for the store and the books, while others called it a ‘peak Bengaluru moment’.The move is also encouraging people to choose local book stores over online sites. Taking to social media, the store expressed its gratitude towards people. “We wish to take this opportunity to thank all our esteemed patrons & well wishers for your concern about Bookworm. The words of support and offers to help have been truly overwhelming for us and we are grateful for your continued support. We are working to bring the store back to normal but you can visit at any time for your book needs or kindly call and msg us on 9845076757. Once again, all of us at Bookworm. Thanks you for your keeping us in your thoughts,” the post read.Check out the viral post:The post was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the handle ‘bookworm_Kris’.
