A disturbing video shared by an Instagram user identified as Romi Mehta has gone viral, triggering widespread concern and debate online. In the clip, Romi recounts a harrowing encounter with a young child found wandering alone near GT Road in Ghaziabad, raising serious questions about child safety, neglect, and institutional response.According to Romi, the incident occurred a few days ago when she was returning from work and noticed a three-to-four-year-old child standing by the roadside. The child was holding two buckets, one of which contained drain water that he reportedly poured over himself while still fully clothed. In the video, the child can be seen drenched, visibly dirty, and shivering in the cold, wearing only a hoodie and pajama.Note:
Times now could not independently confirm the authenticity of the viral post. Alarmed by the child’s condition and what she described as “strange behaviour,” Romi said she immediately went to a nearby police station to report the matter. However, she was told that complaints regarding the same child had been received earlier as well. Police allegedly informed her that the child frequently walks alone from Shalimar Garden to Rajbagh Metro Station—a distance of nearly two kilometres. Romi expressed disbelief at the explanation, questioning how a four-year-old could repeatedly make such a journey on his own.Unsatisfied with the response, she returned to the area and attempted to gather information from local residents, but no one claimed to recognise the child. As people around grew concerned, the child reportedly tried to flee. Romi attempted to stop him, but he managed to escape and ran into the metro station premises. With no immediate assistance from the police, Romi approached the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) stationed at the metro. She said she explained the entire incident to a senior officer, noting that the child’s behaviour appeared highly unusual, as he repeatedly tried to run away and did not respond to questions. CISF officials then took her to their control room and contacted Child Helpline Services, following which police arrived at the spot. After police intervention, the child was taken to Sahibabad Police Station, where Romi was informed that the boy had been brought there at least four times earlier. Police allegedly stated that the child comes from an extremely poor background and is mentally unstable, and that his mother and maternal uncle often leave him unattended. Officials further claimed that the child has previously wandered as far as Dilshad Garden on foot.
