As artificial intelligence companies search for real-world data to train the next generation of humanoid robots, some people are finding an unexpected way to cash in. One such person is a 25-year-old homemaker from Chennai who is being paid to record her daily household routine.Nagireddy Sriramyachandra wears a smartphone attached to her head and films ordinary tasks from her perspective, including preparing coffee, slicing fruits and folding clothes. The footage is then supplied to AI firms that use the videos to teach robots how humans interact with objects and carry out routine chores inside homes.By analysing these first-person recordings, developers aim to help humanoid robots better understand movement, coordination and decision-making
in everyday environments.According to a post shared on X, Sriramyachandra captures more than 90 short videos each day and earns around Rs 250 per hour for the work. Speaking about the unusual side gig, she said, "Who else will pay you Rs 250 an hour just for doing housework?"
The post quickly sparked debate online, with users divided over the idea of contributing data that could potentially accelerate the development of AI-powered machines.Online reactions were mixed, with some users expressing concern over the long-term implications of providing data for AI training. One commenter argued that such contributions could eventually threaten employment opportunities for future generations and suggested that people should demand significantly higher compensation for sharing valuable training data.Another user criticised the trend, comparing it to how software developers helped advance AI technologies that are now automating parts of their own profession. The commenter questioned the need for humanoid robots and raised concerns about their environmental impact.Meanwhile, some users were simply curious about the arrangement, with one person asking which company was behind the payments, noting that similar videos had surfaced online without naming the organisations involved.Others took a lighter view. One commenter suggested that the homemaker could earn even more by livestreaming her activities, pointing to creators who have gained popularity and income by sharing first-person content online through smart glasses and social media platforms.
