'Cancer Pill Costs Rs 85,000 In US, Rs 35 In India': American Woman Says US Healthcare Is 'Robbing' Patients

A viral video by an American woman comparing the cost of a cancer medication in India and the United States has reignited conversations about the stark difference in healthcare expenses between the two countries. In the clip, she claimed Americans were being "robbed" by their healthcare system after discovering that the same medicine her aunt relies on costs hundreds of times less in India than in the US.The woman, identified as Liz, shared the video on Instagram under the title "Indian vs American healthcare." Using her aunt's blood cancer treatment as an example, she highlighted the price gap between the branded version of the drug in the US and the generic alternative available in India.Praising India's access to affordable medicines, Liz said,

"India has some of the cheapest medicines in the world. My aunt has a type of blood cancer, and she takes this medicine called Revlimid."She continued, "In the US, one pill costs $900, which is Rs 85,000. I checked. The price of this medicine in India, it ranges from Rs 35 to Rs 300, which is around 30 cents to $3 again, for one pill."Liz argued that the difference reflected a larger issue with the American healthcare system. "In the US, we are being robbed, whereas India provides affordable healthcare for its people," she said.
