‘Death Ball Sponge’ and ‘Zombie Worms’- do they sound like some other worldly creatures to you? Well, if ‘yes’, then worry not, you ain’t alone. It seems like there is a bit too much that is happening,
which has left people asking if we are somehow getting closer to ‘aliens’? Wait, what?3I/ATLASFirst, it was an interstellar object visiting us from the outside of our solar system, now, its species that were seemingly always with us- only much deeper in the ocean. Confused, allow us to elaborate further. Starting with the above-mentioned interstellar object- it was ‘comet’ 3I/ATLAS- which has been identified as an interstellar object by NASA, that is currently passing through our solar system. The massive comet, travelling on a ‘hyperbolic trajectory’, is a mystery as there have been only a handful of updates on it. With that said, of course, people began to connect it with ‘UFO and aliens’.Newly Discovered Deep-Sea Species:Now, coming to the LATEST ‘aliens’ related speculations- the source is the recently discovered deep-sea species! Yes, the deep-sea is back with another set of mysteries. Scientists from The Nippon Foundation-Nekton Ocean Census, along with collaborators, recently discovered 30 new species from a less explored area of the ocean. It was the South Sandwich Islands’ ‘volcanic calderas, the South Sandwich Trench, and seafloor habitats around Montagu and Saunders Islands’, that was surveyed for the search for new species. As per a press release on the same, the Ocean Census Flagship expedition was reportedly done onboard Schmidt Ocean Institute's recreational vehicle. It was here that the team discovered these species, including ‘Death-Ball sponge’ and ‘Zombie Worms’.‘Death-Ball sponge’ and ‘Zombie Worms’:As per the press release, the sponge-in-question is a bit different than the usual ‘filter-feeding sponges’, as this spherical shaped sponge allegedly had hooks on it– to trap its prey. Apart from its nature, the appearance too looked something much more intriguing and rare. ‘Zombie Worms’, on the other hand, had no ‘mouth or gut’.ALSO READ: ‘Mera Purse Do, Baat Khatam’: Indore To Delhi Train Passenger Breaks Window Glass Over ‘Stolen Purse’ | ViralReportedly, the team has only assessed ‘under 30 per cent of the samples collected’, and has still managed to confirm ‘30 new species’. "The Southern Ocean remains profoundly under-sampled. To date, we have only assessed under 30% of the samples collected from this expedition, so confirming 30 new species already shows how much biodiversity is still undocumented," Head of Science at The Nippon Foundation-Nekton Ocean Census, Dr Michelle Taylor, was heard saying.ALSO READ: ‘Dekhta Hoon Kaise Jaate Ho’: Bengaluru Woman 'Harassed’ By Rapido Driver Over Being 3 Minutes LateConnection to ‘aliens’:If studies so far are to be believed, they hardly have anything to do with aliens, and it’s more about them being ‘new’ to us. However, if the curious internet is to be believed, they might have an ‘alien connection’! Take a look at some of the internet reactions:
