A post is going viral on social media after a Reddit user shared an incident in which their boss allegedly asked for their live location when they requested sick leave due to an acute headache. The user later turned to the Reddit community asking, “if this is okay?”The post was shared on Reddit under the r/IndianWorkplace thread and was titled, “Is asking for live location okay?” In the post, the user wrote, “Hello everyone! I was on leave yesterday because of an acute headache. Today morning, I asked my boss to grant me leave again as I was still suffering from a headache. He asked me to talk to HR, and HR said to provide valid documents. I informed my boss about this. He then asked me to share my live location. Ik it’s not okay. What will
be the consequences?”The post was accompanied by a screenshot that appears to show a chat between the boss and the employee. In the exchange, the boss asks the employee to share their live location. When the employee questions, “Why?”, the boss responds by asking, “What is the use to share the location?”
The post has since gone viral and sparked intense discussion within the Reddit community. One user commented, “Straight up deny it. Highlight privacy concerns. Also, seeing it’s on WhatsApp, I am assuming it’s an Indian company of small size. Such toxicity and micromanagement is what is letting the domestic sector down big time.”Another added, “They think you’re partying. If you’re partying, deny the request. If you’re not partying, tell them that you have signed up for work and not slavery, and your location is not a matter of concern. Sharing it only creates a record of their approach for later use.”
