A photograph showing muddy brown water flowing from taps in a Pune housing society has triggered fresh debate online about the city's water infrastructure, after a local entrepreneur claimed residents are paying hefty sums for water that appears unfit for daily use.The issue was highlighted by Vineeth K, founder of Deals Dhamaka, who shared the image on X and alleged that the discoloured water had been supplied through private tankers to his residential complex. Alongside the photo, he criticised the quality of water being delivered despite the substantial costs borne by residents.“This is water from our society this week. No added preservatives, that’s exactly the colour of water delivered by tankers,” Vineeth wrote. He also attached the picture
showing brownish water. He warned that the issue could develop into a serious public health concern.According to him, residents of the society collectively spend nearly Rs 70 lakh every year on water tankers, yet continue to face such issues.“We pay ~70L every year for water tankers, if this is the situation for us … imagine what the restaurants and roadside eateries are getting,” he wrote. “A silent health pandemic is awaiting in Pune. With this type of water for chores and drinking, very soon health, skin diseases, water borne diseases will follow,” he added.Vineeth also questioned the living conditions faced by homebuyers despite paying premium prices for housing in the city. “The condition is pathetic after paying 1-1.5Cr for flats and have to live in such circumstances,” he concluded.
