In a world where ‘lay-offs in thousands’ has turned into a frequent headline, is working for the same company for decades and for 12 to 14 hours on a daily basis really a good practice? Taking to LinkedIn, a Delhi woman recently sided with Gen Z employees and their ‘working patterns’, stating that the era of "loyalty, sacrifices" and getting an equal return from organisations “no longer exists”. She further stated that the “hustle culture was never designed for Gen Z”, as it was made for a world where jobs were the only security and guarantee that people had.“Everyone's criticising Gen Z for not wanting to overwork. They're right. I've spoken to people in their 40s who built incredible careers. Sacrificed their 20s. Worked 14-hour days for a decade.
And they'll tell you, usually quietly, that they'd do it differently. The hustle culture that Gen Z is rejecting was never designed for Gen Z. It was designed for a world where a job guaranteed security. Where 10 years at one company meant a pension and a corner office,” the post read. The woman also called out the corporate field and stated how companies no longer remember the sacrifices of their employees. Calling “working for others” an “old deal”, the Delhi woman wrote how Gen Z is smart enough to not to take such a deal.“That world doesn't exist. The average job tenure now is 2 to 3 years. The company will not remember your sacrifice. Working yourself into the ground for someone else's equity is the old deal. Gen Z looked at that deal and said no. And every generation before them called them lazy. It's not laziness. It's that they did the math faster than others did. I'm not saying don't work hard. Work hard on things that compound for you. Not for someone who'll let you go in a restructuring and post about it on LinkedIn,” the post concluded. The post immediately went viral, pulling many reactions. It was quick to divide the internet, as some agreed with her, while some had otherwise to say.Times Now could not confirm the details and the authenticity of the post.Check out the viral post: “Everyone's criticising Gen Z for not wanting to overwork.
