Stranger Things Season 5 ended on December 31, leaving the fandom emotional. With a series that shaped an entire generation coming to a close, fans now feel they have nothing new to look forward to. However, the craze around the show continues to thrive on social media. Amid this, a quirky video has gone viral showing a “die-hard” Stranger Things fan watching the entire series on an original 1983 television. The internet initially struggled to believe the clip, but it later turned out to be completely real. The video was originally shared on Instagram by a user identified as Chris Latanville. It gained massive traction after being reshared by the popular Instagram page Pubity, quickly going viral. The clip was captioned: “A Stranger Things fan went
full retro and rewatched the show on an actual TV from 1983. The warm glow, the fuzzy picture, the old-school vibe—it feels like stepping straight into Hawkins again.”
In the video, a small vintage television—reminiscent of sets commonly seen in the 1990s—can be seen playing episodes of Stranger Things. According to the user’s Instagram account, which was created specifically to explain the setup, the process behind it has left many viewers intrigued. When one netizen asked how it was done, Latanville explained in a brief but technical response that sparked even more curiosity online. He wrote, “It’s a coaxial cable connection to an RF modulator, which basically converts the coaxial connection into RCA—the white, yellow, and red component cables. Then I connect an RCA-to-HDMI converter, which is connected to my Fire Stick.” The video has since gone viral, drawing a wave of reactions from social media users. One user commented, “This is how it was meant to be watched. Grain, glow, and pure ’80s magic. Netflix can’t recreate this feeling.” Another joked, “That’s so cool! Can’t wait to NOT waste my time doing that.” Many more reactions have continued to pour in.
