A fresh copyright controversy has sparked intense discussion online after singer and content creator Priyanka Parashar alleged that her original song, Winter Qawwali, was wrongly claimed by another individual.
According to Priyanka, the track, composed and shared by her just a week ago, was allegedly copyrighted in the name of a person called Arman Khan, resulting in copyright claims being raised against her own video.Priyanka addressed the issue in an Instagram video, stating that she was shocked to discover that the earnings from her song were reportedly being redirected to Arman. She also shared a screenshot suggesting that the song had been registered under his name. Admitting that she was not well-versed in copyright processes, Priyanka said she never imagined facing such a situation with her own creation. In the clip, she urged her followers to tag DistroKid, the music distribution platform she claimed had registered the song in Arman’s name, so the company could “understand” that something was wrong and “cancel” the rights allegedly assigned to him.
Later, in the comments section, Priyanka thanked her supporters and revealed that she had escalated the matter to Meta Support. Calling the episode a learning experience, she wrote, “It is a learning for me and I wanted to share this experience with you all so other artists can also be careful. Today the earnings might not be much but tomorrow if your creation is watched or heard by many then these things become pretty important.”Priyanka had uploaded
Winter Qawwali on her social media platforms about a week ago, and the video has already crossed 92 lakh views on Instagram.
While her claims have gained massive traction online, they could not be independently verified by Times Now. The allegations triggered strong reactions from social media users, many of whom sided with Priyanka and criticised DistroKid for allegedly copyrighting the song under someone else’s name. One user described the incident as “disgusting.”Another account explained that artists automatically own the rights to their work the moment it is created and that no one else should be able to claim ownership if Priyanka is indeed the composer. Tagging DistroKid, the user wrote, “Please verify Priyanka Parashar’s claim. If found true, please apologise to her, release your claim, and compensate her for the lost revenue and the trouble caused.”According to DistroKid’s official Instagram bio, the platform claims to be “the easiest way for music creators to get their music on Spotify, Apple Music, TikTok, Instagram, and more.” As of now, neither DistroKid nor Arman Khan, who is alleged to hold the copyright, has issued an official response to the controversy.
