A disturbing video from Katihar is once again raising questions about how vulnerable workers are treated within the system, especially at the grassroots level. The clip shows an anganwadi worker, Premlata Hembram, allegedly forced to report to duty despite being seriously unwell. According to Brut India, she had been on leave due to illness when Child Development Project Officer Veena Bharti visited the centre and found her absent. Despite being informed of her condition, the officer reportedly insisted she show up.What followed has left many shaken. Fearing job loss, Premlata arrived at the centre supported by her husband, visibly weak and still on an IV drip. In the video, he is seen helping her walk while also carrying the drip bottle alongside
her.The footage, first shared by social media user Ranvijay Singh, described the ordeal: “In Katihar, Bihar, an Anganwadi worker fell ill. The officer said proof of illness is required. Compelled, the Anganwadi worker had to reach the centre with a drip in her hand, trembling.”
After being reposted by Brut India on Instagram, the video quickly went viral, triggering widespread outrage. Social media users flooded the comments section, questioning both the system and the lack of empathy.“In our nation, being poor is a bigger crime than looting thousands of crores and running away,” one user wrote.“Don’t divide by caste, religion, language, and ethnicity, come together as humans. We need more humanity than all these,” another commented.A third added, “It’s good these incidents are being recorded and shared now… imagine what all happens that never comes out.”Others pointed to systemic failures. “Labour laws exist for a reason… what is the point of codes on wages and social security if situations like this continue?” one user questioned.Another comment summed up the anger: “Humanity has died in this country… people in positions of responsibility are just issuing orders without understanding their duty.”
