A dramatic clip from BRAC University in Dhaka has sparked widespread discussion online after capturing a frightening moment involving a malfunctioning escalator on campus. The short video, which is now circulating widely on social media platform X, shows students reacting in shock as an escalator suddenly begins moving at an unusually high speed. While one side of the escalator appears to function normally, the other accelerates without warning, creating a chaotic and potentially dangerous situation. In the footage, students are seen stepping onto the escalator cautiously before realising something is wrong. Within seconds, the speed increases sharply, prompting loud screams of “move, move, move” as those on the escalator rush to reach the upper
floor. Some students struggle to keep their footing, clutching the handrails or holding onto each other in an effort to avoid falling.Note: Times now could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.
The video captures a clear sense of panic and confusion, with several students narrowly managing to stay balanced as the escalator continues at a rapid pace. The incident has raised concerns online about safety measures and maintenance protocols in public spaces within educational institutions. So far, BRAC University has not released an official statement addressing the incident. The exact reason behind the escalator’s sudden acceleration remains unclear, and it is not known whether the episode was caused by a technical fault, mechanical failure, or a lapse in maintenance.
