Apart from being popular, the reason why jhalmuri was in the headlines before the elections was Prime Minister Narendra Modi casually enjoying the snack in Jhargram. The PM, during the election campaign in WB, had made headlines over eating jhalmuri from a small shop in Jhargram. As soon as Goenka shared his post, netizens were quick to connect the two.The post went viral in an instant, pulling many reactions.West Bengal, on the other hand, was one of the poll-bound states, along with a Union Territory: Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. For WB, the votings were held in two phases, while the results were announced on Monday, May 04.
