PDF claiming a “partial lockdown effective from April 15” is circulating widely across WhatsApp groups and has gone massively viral online. At first glance, the document appears official and has left many users alarmed. However, upon opening it, the message simply reads, “April Fool,” revealing it to be a prank. The document looks highly convincing, which is why many people are clicking on it without hesitation. Titled “Delhi Govt. Press Release on Partial Lockdown Effective from 15th April 26,” the PDF mimics the format and tone of an official government notice. Because it references the Delhi government, several users initially believed it to be genuine, only to realise moments later that it was part of an April Fools’ Day joke.
As the file continues to circulate widely, especially on WhatsApp, it has triggered confusion and panic among some users. The timing of the prank has added to its impact. Recently, speculation around a possible “lockdown-like situation” had already been doing the rounds online after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a Parliament session on the West Asia conflict, mentioned that the country should be prepared for ''situations similar to COVID.'' However, there has been no official announcement or indication from the government regarding any lockdown and authorities have repeatedly clarified this.Adding to the anxiety is the ongoing West Asia conflict, which has led to concerns such as LPG shortages, making people more susceptible to believing such claims. As a result, many users found the PDF believable and were left shocked before realising it was a hoax. With April 1 marking April Fools' Day, such misleading messages and documents are not uncommon. Users are advised to stay cautious, verify information before sharing, and avoid falling for realistic-looking pranks that can create unnecessary panic.
