If the term “Poha Paglu” were a country– India would probably be it, and if it were a state– it would probably be Maharashtra! Poha is one of the most loved dishes in India, but the value it carries among people in Maharashtra is something else entirely. With that said, of course, someone from Maharashtra decided to go above and beyond in order to celebrate the ‘World Poha Day’. Maharashtra's renowned chef, Vishnu Mahohar, on Sunday, June 07, attempted a world record by cooking over 3,000 kilograms of Nagpur's famous ‘tarri poha’ in celebration of World Poha Day.The day is celebrated every year to highlight the cultural history and health benefits of the Marathi dish. In Nagpur, ‘tarri poha’ is what people often prefer, which is what Mahohar decided to cook on the big
day. As per ANI, Chef Manohar began preparing the dish at 2:30 AM and finished it at 6 AM. A huge ‘kadhai’ was used as the utensil to cook the 3,000 kgs of Poha, which was then distributed to people for free.As per ANI, hundreds of kilograms of raw materials were used, with Chef Manohar claiming to use 600 kg of Poha, 400 kg of desi chana (chickpeas), 500 kg of onions, 300 kg of oil, and 100 kg each of ginger, garlic, coriander powder, and cumin powder for preparations.ALSO READ: Odisha Man Cooks Omelette Under Sun Amid Extreme Heatwave? Today is World Poha Day, and it is being held on that occasion," Chef Manohar was quoted as saying, as per ANI.The chef wishes to promote Nagpur's local delicacy on a global stage. He also talked about the difference between the ‘Tarri Poha’ and the normal ‘Poha’. He claimed that the ‘Tarri’ contains ‘desi chana’, which is good for “proteins”. “As you know, Poha contains calcium. It is strong enough that it can skip a whole meal,” Manohar told ANI.He further highlighted the health benefits of poha, saying, "It is very healthy. It provides you with calcium, proteins, and vitamins". He said that no one has ever attempted to cook 3,000 kgs of poha at one go, and as such, they will be sending their entry for official review. Chef Manohar and his team have done multiple such events to showcase local delicacies across India and distribute it for the public. Earlier in January 2024, another world record was attempted, with the chef and his team preparing 5,000 kg of halwa for the January 22 opening of Ayodhya's Ram Mandir.(ANI Inputs)
