A routine visit to the ghats of Haridwar turned tense after a video surfaced showing a woman bathing her pet dog in the Ganga River, triggering a heated exchange with people present at the site. The incident, reported from Shradhanand Ghat, occurred when several devotees had gathered for ritual bathing. In the viral clip, the woman is seen near the water with her dog as onlookers question her actions and ask her to move elsewhere. Some individuals at the ghat objected, stating that animals should not be brought to a place considered sacred for religious practices. According to those present, even a priest advised her against bathing the dog there. “The priest also said the dog should be bathed somewhere else, but she didn’t listen,” a man is heard
saying in the video. As more people gathered, the situation escalated into a verbal argument. The woman is seen responding firmly while defending her actions, with some bystanders alleging that she used abusive language during the exchange. At one point, she also claimed to have links with a ministry. The video has since gone viral, drawing mixed reactions online. While several users criticised the act as disrespectful to religious sentiments, others questioned the backlash.
“It’s wrong to bring animals to the ghats where people bathe,” one user wrote. However, another commented, “What’s wrong with this? She’s bathing her pet dog. If anyone has a problem, they can move elsewhere.” A third added, “Problem kya hai? Wo bhi toh bhagwan ka baccha hai.”Some users also highlighted what they viewed as a contradiction in attitudes. “We worship Nandi Maharaj in temples, but if a real animal comes near, we chase it away,” a comment read.Others shifted focus to broader environmental concerns, pointing out that pollution in rivers remains a far more pressing issue. “We need to focus on sewage and other pollutants in our rivers,” another user wrote.
