Seven-year-old Ishank Singh from Ranchi has created a world record by swimming across the Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka.The young swimmer completed the nearly 29-kilometre stretch between Talaimannar and Dhanushkodi in an impressive 9 hours and 50 minutes. His feat has captured attention nationwide, with many applauding his determination and discipline at such a young age.Record-Breaking FeatIshank, a resident of Dhurwa in Ranchi, undertook the swim on April 30, 2026. Reports suggest he has now become the youngest swimmer ever to complete the Palk Strait crossing.Known for its unpredictable tides and strong currents, the route is considered highly demanding even for experienced swimmers. Despite these conditions, Ishank successfully
completed the journey in under 10 hours, earning the “Youngest and Fastest Palk Strait Swimmer” title from the Universal Records Forum.Rigorous Training Behind the SuccessPreparation for the feat involved months of intense practice. Ishank trained daily at Dhurwa Dam, often spending four to five hours in the water to build endurance and strength.Under the guidance of his coaches, Aman Kumar Jaiswal and Bajrang Kumar, he followed a disciplined routine designed to prepare him for the physical and mental demands of long-distance open-water swimming.
