A viral video by an Indian national alleging mistreatment at the Embassy of India in Italy has triggered a sharp response from the Embassy, which has firmly denied the accusations and termed them baseless. In a statement shared on its official social media account, the Embassy said the individual had come to its premises but declined to follow the required identification procedures. The Embassy stated, “We have seen a video made by a certain Indian national. Claims being made by him are false and fabricated. He had come to the Embassy and we were ready to meet him, but he refused to show his identity/passport. We follow some standard security protocols for visitors to the Embassy.”Officials stated that verifying identity is a routine requirement
for all visitors and must be completed before entry or any assistance is granted.
The Claim Of The Viral VideoThe man claimed in his Instagram videos that he went to meet the Indian Embassy in Italy, but they refused to see him. He wrote, “I am currently walking from Malta to India for climate awareness. After walking 1,503 kilometres, I reached the embassy because they are our official representatives in every country. For me and my mission, it is important to meet our officials. After all, I am an Indian citizen walking and representing India across the globe. However, they did not respond for four months, and you can see their behaviour in how they treated me when I was calmly sharing my experience in the video. Then they came… and many things happened.” He further claimed, “First of all, I was not there to meet the embassy because they didn’t give me an appointment, even after I had been asking for four months. So I didn’t ring the bell or bother them at all. I went there just to take a photo from outside the embassy so I would have proof that I was there. It is an official point for any mission because they are representing us. I went there, took a photo, and then I was shooting a video on the street, talking about my experience. But suddenly, an officer came and asked us many questions in a rude manner, and then I started recording the video because we felt that this was not right. First of all, they didn’t give an appointment—okay, fine. They didn’t reply at all—okay, fine. I was not bothering them; I was simply recording my video on the street, but they still treated us like this.”The Embassy did not reveal the individual’s identity, stating that all procedures were properly followed during the interaction.Reiterating its stance, the mission said it continues to remain dedicated to supporting Indian nationals in the country and regularly engages with the Indian community through outreach initiatives.“The Embassy remains committed to offering all possible assistance to Indian nationals. We have a regular outreach to all members of the Indian community,” the statement said.
