A routine discussion in Guyana’s Parliament took an unusual and widely discussed turn when MP Vikash Ramkisoon chose to respond in fluent Hindi after an opposition lawmaker questioned his familiarity with the language.A video of the moment, featuring MP Vikash Ramkisoon, has since gone viral on social media. In the clip, he is seen issuing a firm response in Hindi, declaring, “Main abhi issi waqt unko chanuati deta hoon, main kissi bhi vishay par hindi mein baat kar sakta hoon.” His remarks were aimed at directly countering the claim that he did not understand or speak the language.According to reports, the exchange began when an opposition member alleged that Ramkisoon lacked knowledge of Hindi. Seeking permission from the Speaker of the House,
Ramkisoon stated that he would like to reply in Hindi to address the accusation head-on. Once granted approval, he addressed the chamber and openly challenged the opposition lawmaker, naming him during his response.
Elaborating further, Ramkisoon said, “Main abhi issi waqt unko chunauti deta hoon ki kisi bhi star par, kisi bhi jagah par jaa kar, vishay woh tay karenge. Aur woh jis bhi mudde par debate karna chahte hain, main bina kagaz dekhe us debate ke liye tayaar hoon.” (“I challenge him right now—at any level, at any place. He can decide the topic, and whichever issue he wants to debate on, I am ready to do it without referring to any notes or papers.”) Though delivered in a calm and composed manner, his statement immediately drew the attention of fellow lawmakers present in the House. The moment quickly resonated beyond Parliament. The video gained traction online, particularly among members of the Indian-origin community in Guyana as well as audiences abroad. Initially shared by the official X handle of the High Commission of India in Georgetown, Guyana, the clip was rapidly reposted by multiple users and has since accumulated thousands of views.Ramikisoon’s background also came into focus following the viral moment. A Delhi University alumnus, he holds a Master’s degree in Commerce and Finance along with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce. Observers noted that his confident delivery reflected not only academic exposure but also a strong cultural connection to the language. Since taking office on September 13, 2025, Ramkisoon has increasingly projected himself as a link between India and Guyana, frequently highlighting shared cultural roots, history, and linguistic heritage.
