A heartbreaking video shared by a man about ''how even family stops respecting you when you're not earning'' has struck a deep chord online. The clip, which has rapidly gone viral, shows him candidly speaking about the painful shift in his household’s behaviour after he left his job. Social media users widely resonated with his message, calling it a harsh but honest reality many silently face. The video was posted on Instagram by a user identified as Director Daya. Recording himself, he says, “Maine teen din pehle apni job chhod di aur main ghar aa gaya. Pehle jab main ghar aata tha, mummy puchti thi ‘ek-do roti aur lega?’ Aur wo ek alag feeling hoti thi ki beta kama raha hai toh pyaar se puch leti thi. Ab teen din ho gaye mujhe ghar par pade,
aur koi nayi job mil nahi rahi. Toh kal papa bol rahe the, ‘yeh do roti aur maang raha hai, isko do roti aur dedo.’” (“Three days ago, I left my job and came back home. Earlier, whenever I came home, my mother would ask, ‘Will you have an extra roti or two?’ And it felt different — like she asked lovingly because her son was earning. Now it’s been three days of me just being at home, and I’m not getting any new job. So yesterday my father said, ‘He’s asking for two more rotis, just give them to him.’”)
He adds, “Mujhe itna bura feel hua ki agar main paise kama raha hoon toh izzat hai, aur agar paise nahi kama raha toh meri ek ghanta bhar ki bhi izzat nahi. Agar aapke paas paise nahi hain, job nahi hai, ya jeb khaali hai, toh aapke ghar wale bhi aapki respect nahi karte.” (“I felt so terrible, because when I’m earning, I get respect — but the moment I’m not earning, I don’t get even an hour’s worth of respect. If you don’t have money, don’t have a job, or your pockets are empty, even your own family won’t respect you.”)He concludes with a blunt message: “It’s my humble request to all the boys—bhai, paise kamao. Jaise bhi ho, kamao. Paise hain toh izzat hai, nahi toh kuch bhi nahi.” (“It’s my humble request to all the boys — brothers, earn money. Earn however you can. If you have money, you have respect; if you don’t, you’re nothing.”)The video was captioned,
“Gareeb beta toh maa-baap ko bhi accha nahi lagta.” (“Even parents don’t like a poor son.”)The clip has gone massively viral with
over 1 lakh likes,
10,000+ comments, and nearly
3 million views. Many viewers agreed with him, with one commenting, “It's damn true. I can understand your feelings.” Another wrote, “Harsh reality bro… stay strong and keep fighting until you win.” Someone else added, “This is how society works — no one is truly yours.”
