An emotional story from China has struck a chord online after an 11-year-old girl’s quiet way of coping with loss came to light. Millions were moved when it was revealed that the child regularly sends messages to her late grandfather, maintaining a bond that continues long after his passing, according to the South China Morning Post. The discovery was made by the girl’s mother, Han, who lives in China’s Sichuan province. As reported by The Cover, Han came across the messages while checking her daughter’s phone-watch and was left deeply touched by what she found.Han shared in a video, "My daughter was only nine years old when her grandfather passed away. Since then, she hasn't tried to talk to herself about him."Over time, Han realised that her daughter had
matured emotionally and no longer expressed her feelings openly, choosing instead to carry them quietly within herself.Phone-watches, commonly used by children in China, are electronic devices bought by parents to stay in touch with their kids. These watches allow calling and messaging only with approved contacts and do not support internet access.Han explained that her daughter had recently been talking frequently about a boy who was kind to her. Curious, she decided to look through the watch’s chat history and unexpectedly discovered multiple messages sent to her late grandfather. The texts included updates about school, moments from her travels, and simple messages expressing longing, including “I miss you” memes written in Chinese. Han recalled, "Whenever my daughter said 'I miss you' to her grandfather, he always responded via voice message."She added, "She started sending messages to her grandfather about two weeks after his passing. I had no idea my daughter had such deep love for him."The messages reveal how the young girl continues to hold her grandfather close, expressing affection in a gentle and heartfelt way. The story has resonated widely across China, highlighting how children process grief differently—and how love can quietly endure even after loss.
