A social media video shared by a Mumbai-based woman has gone viral, sparking a wider debate about workplace culture, overtime compensation, and employee rights in India’s corporate sector. The 26-year-old, identified as Dhrupadi, explained in the clip why she decided to resign from her job at a music ed-tech company. She said her decision came after her boss allegedly publicly shouted at her when she requested compensation for extra working hours. She added that while she could accept low pay, she could not tolerate disrespect. Her account has since triggered discussions around toxic workplaces and how younger professionals are increasingly setting firm boundaries. In the Instagram video she shared, an audio can be heard of her boss seemingly
shouting at her and saying, “You guys have to align, everybody has to align to my rules and regulations. If you do not like it, please leave tomorrow. It’s completely okay.” While this audio is being played, a text overlay reads, “All I asked was compensation for extra hrs (after working for 2 years).” The video then pans to the woman, with another text overlay reading, “So I resigned.”The woman further explained in her Instagram video and wrote, “Low pay? survivable. Disrespect? nope. Good luck to them finding my replacement though. I think one of the biggest reasons Gen Z creators are growing so rapidly right now is because people are exhausted by performative perfection. Audiences don’t just want polished content anymore. They want honesty, personality, opinions, and humanity.”She further wrote, “And honestly, I’m proud to belong to a generation that is becoming less afraid to stand up for its boundaries publicly. After working for 2 years and 7 months in a company and maintaining a strong reputation in my role, I asked for compensation for extra hours worked beyond my official schedule. The response I received was being shouted at publicly in front of hundreds of people. I raised concerns professionally and sought accountability and a formal apology. When that didn’t happen, I chose to resign. And honestly? I’m glad I did.”
