Social media was left stunned after a video surfaced showing a travel vlogger dipping her camera into a gutter in Japan — only for the internet to be shocked by what the camera captured. The gutter water
was so clean that colourful fishes could be seen swimming in it, a sight users called “rare” and astonishing. The video, shared on Instagram by a user identified as Alicia Cooper, was captioned: “They don’t look like this in England. In Shimabara, parts of the town are fed by natural spring water, and along a few of these little canals they’ve released hundreds of colourful koi to attract tourists.”In the clip, as soon as the vlogger places her camera inside the gutter, crystal-clear water comes into view with fish swimming gracefully — a sight to behold. A text overlay on the video reads: “POV: you stick your camera in a gutter in Japan.”
However, the vlogger also clarified that such gutters exist only in certain tourist areas where natural spring water flows and koi are added intentionally. She cautioned viewers, saying, “So please don’t visit Japan expecting them all to look like this.”The video has since exploded online, garnering wide-ranging reactions. As it went massively viral, desi netizens also flooded the comment section with their takes. One user wrote, “Looks cleaner than frikin tap water in Delhi.” Another remarked, “Looks cleaner than our normal rivers in India — now fishes are rare even in rivers here.”Many others pointed out that these gutters are specially maintained for tourists, with one comment reading, “This is an artificial gutter built to attract tourists.”Some users even speculated that the video might be AI-generated, as many couldn’t believe such a “beautiful” sight could exist inside a gutter.
