Just a few days ago, it was the Australian skies that had resembled an ‘apocalyptic movie-like’ scene, to the level that the internet began to talk about the “end of the world” and “doomsday”. Videos of the same were reported on March 27. Naturally, the matter was hardly out of the headlines when something similar took over the skies in Greece as well. Reportedly, people in Crete and Santorini islands were left stunned, confused and even a bit scared– after the skies turned “blood red” on Wednesday, April 01.Videos of strong winds blowing amid an eerie-looking crimson atmosphere started flooding the internet, triggering the same reactions that many gave when Australia's Shark Bay and the Pilbara region had turned red: “is this the end of the world?”
Turned out, the “Martian look” of Greece was not exactly a mystery and was a result of the storm named “Erminio”. As per multiple reports, the said sandstorm witnessed winds “exceeding 100 km/h”, resulting in it blowing sand from the Sahara Desert and bringing the same across the Mediterranean. It was the effect of these sand particles in the horizon, which had resulted in the “world” looking red to people in the Greek islands.Times Now could not confirm the details of the videos.Check out the viral post: “Rare Red Sandstorm Sweeps through Crete, Greece and Libya. The Sandstorm is expected to start hitting Egypt and other areas in the upcoming hours. Videos are from Greece and Libya today. No filters, this is how it looks like,” the post read.
