An on-stage moment involving yoga guru Ramdev took an unexpected turn after he accepted a spontaneous wrestling challenge, resulting in a light-hearted but widely discussed face-off that has since taken social media by storm. The incident occurred during an event organised by a media house, where the 59-year-old spiritual leader surprised attendees by stepping forward for an impromptu bout with a journalist present on stage. What Ramdev appeared not to anticipate was that his chosen opponent had deep roots in professional wrestling. The journalist, identified as Jaideep Karnik from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, comes from a family closely associated with the sport. In the viral video, Ramdev is seen attempting to apply various grappling techniques,
while Karnik calmly counters the moves, sidestepping and maintaining balance with ease.At one stage, Ramdev briefly managed to bring Karnik down, but the journalist quickly recovered and turned the situation around, matching the yoga guru’s strength and composure. The friendly duel concluded without any hostility, as both men ended up on the ground before standing up smiling, signalling mutual respect.
The clip soon ignited intense debate online. While several users applauded Ramdev’s agility and stamina, one comment read, “Whatever anyone says, Baba Ramdev is very fit even at this age,” others took a more critical view of the episode. Some felt the yoga guru had misjudged his opponent’s abilities.“Baba thought he would be an easy prey to gain some media points but in the end made mockery of himself,” one user wrote. Another remarked, “The news guy will remember it for life.”As per reports, adding further context, Jaideep Karnik’s family has a long-standing legacy in wrestling.
