As a thick haze blankets Mumbai, residents are increasingly alarmed by the city’s rising air pollution levels. Arindam Paul, Chief Business Officer of Atomberg, highlighted in his X post the health struggles faced by his colleagues, with many suffering from fever, sore throats, and allergies due to the worsening smog and spiking AQI.On Tuesday, Mumbai experienced a persistent haze while the overall AQI hovered at 172, still in the “moderate” range. However, six areas in the city recorded readings above 200, slipping into the “poor” category.Concern Over Rising AQIReacting to the deteriorating air quality, Paul expressed surprise that a coastal city like Mumbai would register such high pollution levels. “Almost everyone in office down with sore throat/fever/allergy…
I understand that this is the price we pay for development and infra, but surely we could find a solution if we wanted to,” he wrote on X, adding, “no coastal city should have a 250-300 AQI.”
He reflected on how drastically the city’s environment has changed over the years, noting that “just five years ago, the time between November and January used to be the best time to be in Mumbai. It is the worst now.” His comments came in response to a video showing a blanket of haze severely reducing visibility across the city.Residents Voice AlarmPaul’s concern is shared by many Mumbaikars, who have been raising alarms about air pollution on social media since the start of November. The rising AQI and visible smog have left residents frustrated about the city’s declining air quality and its impact on public health. Delhi's Rising AQI CrisisLong before Mumbai’s AQI crisis, social media was already flooded with posts complaining about the deteriorating air quality in Delhi. Protests regarding the issue have also been taking place across the city. After Delhi, residents are now raising complaints about Mumbai’s AQI as well.
