'They Are Doing It On Purpose': Viral Clip Shows Locals 'Damaging' Delhi–Saharanpur Expressway Before Launch

Even before its official inauguration, the newly built Delhi–Saharanpur Expressway is facing an unexpected problem — vandalism. The yet-to-be-opened highway has turned into a hotspot not for commuters,

but for those ''intent on damaging public property.'' A recent video shared by Instagram user @vivekpatwaa21 has brought this issue to light, showing broken streetlights, smashed cameras, and damaged poles along the stretch.In his video, the content creator alleged that the damage was not accidental but deliberate. He said, “The government built a highway in Delhi, the Delhi–Saharanpur highway. People say cheap materials were used and the poles must have broken in the wind, and you might think that too. But that is not true. The people who come here have deliberately broken things. The road had not even been opened yet and people had already damaged it. They are doing it on purpose. I think soon all the lights on the highway will be gone and the cameras will disappear as well."

Expressing his frustration, he added, “People are so angry with the government that they are vandalising the highway, they hate this government. This highway was built for us, so why are they burning its lights? People throw stones at the cameras. No matter which government comes, these people will not change. Do you think this will help us compete with China? I don’t think so. They will have to stop people from coming and going."The viral clip has once again triggered a conversation about India’s lack of civic discipline. Many social media users expressed disappointment, calling for stronger awareness and restrictions. One user commented, “No basic civic sense... government should introduce civic sense into academics.” Another added, “These roads must not be used by pedestrians or for morning walk. Absolutely no civic sense.''
