In papers and in discussions, people in India surely have started recognising the importance of a healthy mind and stable emotions; however, in actuality, it seems like the problematic normalisation of mental
and physical drainage in corporate setups is far from over. Social media has been witnessing repeated instances of people facing major workplace toxicity, with hardly any solution being implemented on a larger scale. Adding yet another similar instance to the list, a Reddit post recently came forward and went viral. The post was shared by a bank employee, who recalled an incident that happened with a woman working at the bank for years. As per the post, the woman had asked for leaves to take care of her ailing mother. However, not only did the manager cancel the leave, but also went ahead and allegedly asked the employee to put her mother “in a medical or shelter home”. Allegedly, the employee chose to be with her mother, resulting in her eventually resigning from the bank. The post went viral and ended up turning into a major example of blatant ‘workplace toxicity’ in India. Some netizens even asked the Redditor to “name and shame” the company involved. The rest recalled similar instances where their emergencies were dismissed quite inhumanly.Times Now could not confirm the details and the authenticity of the post.Check out the viral post: “Manager told: Put your mother in a medical or shelter home and come to the office,” the post read. “A senior woman colleague at a large private bank asked for a few days of leave. Her mother was critically ill because of the wrong medication. She wasn’t asking for anything special. Just some time. The manager’s response was: If she’s not recovering, put her in a medical or shelter home and come to the office,” the post continued.“That was it. She was left with two choices – Work as usual or stay with her mother. She stayed with her mother. Soon after that, she had to resign. She had worked there for years. I’m posting this here because I honestly don’t know what the ‘right’ response is anymore in such workplaces. What would you have done?” the post concluded. The post was shared on Reddit, by the handle ‘Mr_Moulick’. The post was shared today and pulled more reactions from people.
