A 26-year-old doctor from Germany, Selma, travelled thousands of kilometres to a remote village in Pakistan to marry Muhammad Akmal, a 22-year-old man she met on the online gaming platform Roblox. Selma holds dual German and Bosnian citizenship, while Akmal is a resident of Difaar village in Punjab’s Mandi Bahauddin district.Speaking to My News TV, Akmal shared that their interaction started casually while playing Roblox, but regular conversations soon followed. Over nearly five months, the two continued chatting online, gradually forming a strong emotional connection. He said that he proposed to Selma early in their conversations, and although there was an initial delay, she eventually decided to travel to Pakistan to formalise their relationship.Selma,
in the same interview, reflected on how their bond deepened despite early communication challenges. She explained, “Since Akmal did not speak English fluently, he would often reply with just one word- ‘okay’- to most of my messages.” She said that even with these limitations, their emotional understanding grew steadily, reassuring her that the relationship was sincere. After arriving in Pakistan, Selma encountered a way of life very different from what she was used to. Everyday activities such as washing clothes and utensils by hand and preparing rotis were entirely new experiences for her. She noted that while the transition was surprising at first, she slowly adapted and learned to accept these routines as part of her new life.Despite the cultural and lifestyle differences, Selma said she was content with her decision and happy to be with her husband, embracing the changes that came with settling into village life.Akmal also revealed that the marriage took place with the consent and support of both families. He said the total expenditure for the wedding, including Selma’s travel and the ceremony, amounted to approximately PKR 4.5 million (around Rs 14 lakh).Selma further shared that she plans to make Pakistan her permanent home. To better adjust and communicate with her husband’s family and the local community, she has started learning Punjabi and Urdu.
