Turns out– ‘focus and dedication’- were the answers all along! A LinkedIn post by an Indian woman living in the US recently ended up gaining major attention on social media, as it talked about the ‘secret’ to a ‘happy work-life’. Sounds like something much-needed, correct? As per the woman’s post, she allegedly used to have a teammate at her previous organisation- Amazon- who always remained “happy”, and never “slacked off during work hours”. Despite only attending the “extremely important meetings” off hours, the teammate allegedly used to be the “most productive”. Naturally, impressed by his way of working, the woman ended up asking about how the employee never used to "burn out” at the end of the day. The response that followed left not only her stunned
but also the internet impressed.“While I was working at Amazon, I observed this one thing in a teammate. He was an SDE 3 came office at sharp 8 am and left at 3 PM. I never saw it online on slack in off working hours and he seemed to be the happiest and the most productive person in the team. He would only attend extremely important meetings or tasks after hours. Stayed happy. Never complained about work,” the post read.Turns out, the secret behind being the “most productive” and “happy” at the same time was simply being “focused” at work. The employee allegedly used to come to the office at 8 AM every day and used to leave by 4 PM. For him, an early log-in used to mean that he could complete "priority tasks” before the rest logged in by “10 or 11 AM”. This allegedly used to give him enough time to work without getting distracted.“I actually asked him. Hey how do you manage to finish everything, don’t get burnt out, and have so much time for yourself and your family? By focused working hours- he replied. He mentioned he comes at 8 am because most of the people come by 10 or 11 am so in 2 hours he does the most important tasks with complete focus as the office is totally empty. By the time everyone comes he is done with priority tasks and while he is working he does not roam around or basically do partial work and partial time waste,” the post continued.Further explaining, the said teammate advised her to focus on work only- during working hours– which is something he had learned the hard way, while being an intern. “I was amazed by the amount of self-control he had. He told me- Muskan when I joined Amazon as an intern I worked the entire day but still felt like I didn’t get my tasks done. It was because I was actually not working 100 per cent of the time and was living in an illusion of working. He learnt it gradually,” the post read.“Something that stuck with me and made me realise that if you do focused work you can actually get a lot more done than working the entire day unfocused. I realise that so many times we all start doing something and without even realising we end up wasting our time maybe on the phone or if someone called us etc etc and then feel like I was sitting at my work desk for 8 hours and still so much is pending,” the post read. The post immediately went viral and began to gain online reactions. Most agreed with the employee’s tactic. Times Now could not confirm the details or the authenticity of the post.Check out the viral post:The post was shared on LinkedIn, by the handle ‘Muskan Agarwal’.
