A surprising incident shared on Reddit has sparked a debate about quick-commerce delivery standards. A user alleged that a popular online grocery delivery platform sent them an expired ice cream stick — and then attempted to compensate them with only Rs 3, even though the item carried an MRP of Rs 100.The Redditor wrote on r/swiggy that they had ordered Maggi, a milkshake, and a packaged ice cream stick for their nephew. When the child opened the ice cream, the user checked the wrapper and realised it had already passed its expiry date.“So I complained about it, and they didn’t offer me a replacement but rather offered me 3 rupees,” the post mentioned. One screenshot in the post displays the ice cream wrapper’s backside with the printed price
of Rs 100, while another shows a chat with the grocery app’s support team where the user had submitted a video of the expired product. After keeping the customer waiting briefly, the support executive told them: “You are eligible for a refund of INR 3.”
The gap between the product’s price and the tiny refund left Redditors both confused and irritated. Many expressed sympathy for the user’s frustration. Some jumped in with suggestions, including one person who wrote, “Tell them you are not satisfied. They will refund the full amount. The AI bot does this hoping we would let it go.”Another commenter cautioned others about frozen purchases, saying, “Be careful, extremely careful buying frozen items from quick commerce. Only things like ice creams and other things can be ‘ignored’ if there is no power to the freezer, provided it’s not expired.''
