A disturbing video circulating online has brought renewed focus on the unsafe conditions faced by gig workers, particularly food delivery partners operating under intense time pressure. The incident reportedly took place at Anantapur railway station in Andhra Pradesh, where a Swiggy delivery partner was seen falling heavily while attempting to get off a moving train after completing a food delivery. The clip was shared on Instagram by a user named Bijay Anand, who witnessed the entire episode.According to his account, the Prashanti Express (train number 18464) stopped at the station for barely one to two minutes. The delivery was meant for a passenger travelling in First AC, a coach that has multiple entry points. By the time the food was handed
over, the train had already begun to move. With his motorcycle and delivery bag left outside the station and several other orders pending, the delivery partner appeared to panic and tried to step down hastily. He lost balance and fell badly, creating a frightening moment that was captured on camera. The post was accompanied by a stark message: “No delivery is worth a human life.”
The video has since gone viral, triggering widespread concern about the risks delivery workers are often forced to take to meet strict timelines. Many social media users questioned the lack of clear safety protocols for train deliveries and criticised the unrealistic expectations placed on gig workers.Several viewers called the incident deeply unsettling, with one user pointing out that customers should be clearly instructed to collect their orders from the platform or train door to avoid such situations. Others expressed concern for the delivery partner’s well-being, while some demanded compensation for the injuries he may have suffered. However, Bijay Anand later posted another video, sharing an update on the incident. He claimed that he contacted the city’s MLA to check on the delivery partner’s condition.“I contacted the MLA of the city—he enquired and confirmed that the delivery partner is safe. Thanks to @daggupati_venkateswara_prasad Garu. I also spoke to the delivery partner myself. He has multiple injuries on his body, yet he was polite, calm, and sincere—no complaints, no anger. Just a man trying to do his job,” he wrote. The incident has reignited conversations around worker safety, accountability, and the urgent need for better safeguards in the fast-growing gig economy.
