At a time when everyday interactions in big cities are often rushed and transactional, a small act of kindness has reminded the internet that empathy still exists in the most unexpected places. A wholesome story from Delhi has gone viral, warming hearts and sparking conversations about human compassion. The story surfaced through a Reddit post titled “Kind of crazy, wholesome story,” where a Delhi-based man shared an unexpected experience with an autorickshaw driver. According to the post, the man was trying to book a cab while his phone battery was critically low, but eventually managed to get an auto, with the driver agreeing to charge by the meter.Trouble struck midway through the ride when the passenger realised he had no cash at all. Hoping
to pay digitally, he planned to use PhonePe. However, as they reached the destination and he took out his phone to scan the QR code, his device shut down completely.“Midway, I realised I had zero cash in my wallet. Like, actually zero. I thought I would use PhonePe. We reached my drop location, I pulled out my phone to scan his QR code... and boom. Phone died. Just black screen,” he wrote. The situation quickly became stressful. Standing outside his colony gate in the dark, with no way to make the payment, panic set in.“My heart literally sank. It was dark, I was standing outside my colony gate, and I had no way to pay him. I started panicking.” The man tried explaining the situation to the driver and offered to go home and bring back cash. Expecting irritation or suspicion, he instead received a reaction that completely caught him off guard.“Usually, auto walas get super annoyed at this. I expected him to shout or think I was scamming him. Instead, this legend just smiled and said, ‘Arre koi nahi bhai, aap ghar jao thand ho rahi hai’ (It’s nothing, brother. You go home, it’s cold),” he shared.Despite the passenger insisting on paying, the driver simply started his auto and told him not to worry.
