In a remarkable display of strength and determination, Delhi Police constable Sonika Yadav, who is seven months pregnant, has earned nationwide praise after winning a bronze medal at the All India Police Weightlifting
Cluster 2025–26 held in Andhra Pradesh. A video of her competing — lifting impressive weights while carrying her unborn child — has since gone viral, inspiring many across the country.According to a Times Of India report, defying expectations, Sonika lifted a total of 145 kilograms, including 125 kg in squats, 80 kg in bench press, and 145 kg in deadlift, competing alongside some of the best athletes in the force. When she discovered she was pregnant in May, many assumed she would take a break. Instead, she chose to continue training under close supervision, determined to balance her passion for weightlifting with a healthy pregnancy.Sonika’s pregnancy remained unnoticed throughout the competition. Dressed in loose-fitting clothes, she kept her condition private, even as her husband quietly assisted her after the bench press round. The revelation came only after her final lift — a 145 kg deadlift — when the audience erupted in applause upon learning she was seven months pregnant. Fellow policewomen surrounded her, celebrating her grit and courage.
