A disturbing incident has gone viral on social media, where a specially-abled man using a wheelchair claimed he was unable to take the metro to return home because the lift at the station was not working.
He alleged that when he called the emergency helpline for assistance, he was told to “go back home by walking.” The video explaining the incident has sparked widespread criticism and debate online. The video was uploaded on Instagram by a user identified as Karn Shah. In the clip, he explains, “So, I’m at the Worli metro station and the lift is not working over here, and it’s been over 45 minutes that I have been standing here. Unfortunately, there is only one lift in Worli which is functional.”He further claimed, “The only response I have gotten is ki 'aap ghar pe paidal chale jao,' on my wheelchair, on the busy main road where the cars are going, the bikes are going, the buses are going. And they expect me to go from this road all the way to Dadar from Worli. And also, the irony is that I have been calling their emergency number. I have almost called twice or thrice. They say they will connect you with someone, it rings for two seconds and the call automatically disconnects. No one is picking up the call on the emergency numbers.”
