A video from Kerala has been rapidly circulating across social media, capturing a deeply emotional moment as a couple went ahead with their wedding inside the emergency department of a Kochi hospital -
a moment that has been dubbed by the internet as ''real-life Vivaah'' scene. The unusual ceremony took place after Avani, a schoolteacher from Alappuzha, met with a car accident on the very day she was supposed to get married.According to a PTI report, both families were determined not to postpone the wedding since the date held immense significance. With doctors, nurses and close relatives gathered around, Avani and her groom, Sharon VM — an engineering professor — exchanged their vows without any of the usual decorations, music or celebration. Hospital authorities permitted the ceremony after understanding how important the moment was for the couple.
The accident occurred around 3 am while Avani was travelling with relatives to Kumarakom for her bridal makeup. The car reportedly swerved out of control and hit a tree. Nearby residents rushed everyone to Kottayam Medical College, but due to Avani’s serious spinal injuries, she was later transferred to Lakeshore Hospital in Ernakulam, nearly 70 km away, for advanced care.Once Sharon reached the hospital, the families informed the staff that the couple wished to get married at the originally planned time. After consulting the medical team, the hospital arranged a simple ceremony inside the emergency ward, ensuring Avani’s safety throughout. As clips of the intimate wedding spread online, many viewers drew comparisons to the Shahid Kapoor–Amrita Rao film
Vivah.
Internet ReactionsThe video sparked a mix of admiration and criticism. While some viewers found it heartwarming, others questioned the decision. One user wrote,
“God bless him and the couple.. love beyond words..” Another commented,
“Really? What is the point of being a 100% literate state, if people are going to be more concerned about traditions than being rational!” A third user remarked,
“Bravo, majaak nahi he he thought to go ahead. People usually take back their decision.''
