Padmini Ekadashi Vrat Katha
During the Treta Yuga, King Upakirtavirya ruled Mahishmati city. Despite having many queens, he had no worthy son to inherit the throne. The king performed several yajnas and austerities but remained unsuccessful. Finally, he went to Mount Gandhamadan with his queen Pramada to perform severe penance for thousands of years.Seeing the king’s weak condition, Queen Pramada approached the great sage Anusuiya and requested guidance. Sage Anusuiya advised her to observe the sacred Padmini Ekadashi vrat during Adhik Maas with full devotion and night vigil.
Queen Pramada faithfully observed the fast, worshipped Lord Vishnu, and stayed awake throughout the night chanting His divine names. Pleased with her devotion, Lord Vishnu appeared before her and granted a boon.
The king prayed for an invincible son who could conquer everyone except Lord Vishnu Himself. By the blessings of Padmini Ekadashi, Queen Pramada later gave birth to Kartavirya Arjuna, the mighty king who even defeated Ravana.
Lord Krishna declared that anyone who observes this Ekadashi vrat with devotion attains Vishnulok after death.
