Chaitra Purnima falls on the full moon day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Chaitra. On this day, devotees observe a fast and perform snan (ritual
bathing) and daan (charity). This year, however, the Chaitra Purnima tithi occurs on both 1 April and 2 April. This raises the question of when to observe the fast and when to carry out the bathing and charitable acts. "All Purnima days have something special to celebrate for. Hanuman Jayanti falls on Chaitra Purnima day and this day is celebrated as birth anniversary of Hanuman. People worship Lord Satyanarayana, an extremely benevolent form of Lord Vishnu, and observe Satyanarayana fasting on Purnima day," states Drik Panchang. According to the Panchang, the day on which sunrise occurs during the Purnima tithi is chosen for bathing and charity. Similarly, the fast is observed on the day when moonrise occurs during the Purnima tithi.
