This year, a very auspicious combination is forming on the day of Shattila Ekadashi in the month of Magh. On this day, the Sun will move out of Sagittarius
and enter Capricorn, which is considered the beginning of Uttarayan. Shattila Ekadashi will also be observed ob 14th Janaury, 2026. On Makar Sankranti, rice is traditionally donated and khichdi is prepared. However, eating rice is forbidden on Shattila Ekadashi. Because of this, many people are confused about the observance of Makar Sankranti and Ekadashi together. This Sankranti will begin on the afternoon of the 14th and will continue until 15 January. For this reason, some people will also perform charitable acts related to Sankranti on the next day, following the Udaya Tithi.

Devotees should observe the Ekadashi fast and break it within the prescribed time on Dwadashi.
According to Drik Panchang, "Ekadashi Parana is done after sunrise on next day of Ekadashi fast. It is necessary to do Parana within Dwadashi Tithi unless Dwadashi is over before sunrise." It adds, "Parana should not be done during Hari Vasara. One should wait for Hari Vasara to get over before breaking the fast. Hari Vasara is first one fourth duration of Dwadashi Tithi. The most preferred time to break the fast is Pratahkal."
