What is the story about?
It isn't uncommon to find yourself feeling depleted to a point where doing any of your usual reset routines - like a 10-minute walk, meditation or cold
water exposure and the likes - also sounds incredibly exhausting. It's for days like these that the salt and scent reset ritual exists. Now right off the bat, it sounds all woo woo. But this happens to be one of those rituals that are just too simple to not try - maybe even right away! Reiki and candle healer Komal Mehra explains how to go about resetting your energy in 30 seconds, and almost certainly walking away with an instant mood lift.
How to perform the salt and scent reset?
In a reel shared to her Instagram handle, Mehra asks you to take a pinch of salt on your wrist. Spray your perfume on it and immediately rub both your wrists together. Then, with your dominant hand in a fist, simply drop your hand from head to toe. Do this thrice and that spells the end of the ritual.Does it really work?
A scroll through the testaments will have you convinced that there is magic at play, though your rational mind will jump to the ever-dismissing placebo effect as the answer. However, there is some sense of science attached to why so many have reported feeling an instant lift after performing this ritual.Aromachology is the first stop in understanding this. Aromachology attempts to understand the correlation of how fragrance (and adjacent technologies) affect psychology through olfactory stimulation - a scientifically-backed equation then - which is one pillar of this short ritual. Additionally, rubbing salt on the skin activates the somatosensory system owing to its grainy texture. This provides mild sensory stimulation of a foreign kind, one your system is potentially not used to. This in itself grounds the mind back into the body and away from the endless stream of thoughts. Tracing your hand from head to toe, doubles down on the sensory grounding end of this ritual, perceptively expanding it to the entire body.
