The festival of Raksha Bandhan which celebrates the bond of love between brothers and sisters, will be observed this year on 9 August. On this day, sisters tie
a sacred thread called rakhi on their brother’s wrist, praying for his long life. For those who have a Laddoo Gopal (Laddu Gopal or Bal Gopal) at home, the rakhi celebrations begin by tying the rakhi on His wrist first. This ritual is performed before tying the rakhi on their brother’s wrist. According to Sanatan Dharma, there are certain special rules for tying rakhi on Laddoo Gopal. If you wish to tie rakhi on Laddoo Gopal this year, first learn the correct way to do it.
How to Tie Rakhi on Laddoo Gopal?
- On Raksha Bandhan, before tying rakhi on your brother, ensure you tie rakhi on Laddoo Gopal first.
- In the morning, bathe Lord Krishna (Kanha Ji) and dress him in new clothes.
- Apply a tilak on Laddoo Gopal using saffron, roli (vermilion), turmeric, and sandalwood paste. You may mix these with Ganga water to apply a beautiful tilak.
- Tie a yellow, red, or pink silk thread rakhi on Laddoo Gopal. Note that you should not tie a black or blue rakhi on Him, nor should you use plastic or toy rakhis.
What Sweets Should Be Offered to Laddoo Gopal?
You can prepare kheer or halwa at home and offer it to Him as prasad. You cam also make makhan mishri or peda at home. Avoid offering chocolates, salty biscuits, or store-bought sweets to Laddoo Gopal. When you tie rakhi on Laddoo Gopal on Raksha Bandhan, also bring a small gift for Him. It is said that whatever we offer to God on this day is returned to His devotees tenfold. After tying the rakhi and offering the gift to Laddoo Gopal, light a lamp and perform his aarti. It's only after you have performed the rakhi rituals on Ladoo Gopal, should you tie rakhi to your brother.Disclaimer: This article is based on popular beliefs.
