"Rudraksha is one of those items that have a very unique type of reverberation," says Sadhguru. According to him, the Rudraksha is not about faith or belief
but instead, it is about a certain science that works with the human system. For the unversed, the word Rudraksha comes from two words - Rudra meaning tears and Aksha meaning eyes. It literally means "tears of Lord Shiva." According to legends, Shiva once sat in a meditative state for a very long time and everyone thought that he was dead. However, every now and then, the tears of ecstasy flowed from his eyes - showing signs of life. When these tear drops fell on Earth, these created the Rudraksha. Now, Sadhguru believes that everyone should wear a Rudraksha. In his blog, he explains, "When I was 10, 11 years of age, I used to spend a lot of time in the forest, at Chamundi Hill and elsewhere. If I simply sat in one place, I would catch 5 to 10 cobras in an afternoon. One reason is I developed a certain skill for this." He further went on to tell that it was only later when he realized that these snakes were coming towards him rather than him finding them. "Many times, it has happened to me that when I was in a forest and I simply sat still, particularly in the afternoon somewhere between two and five o’clock, when I open my eyes again, there would be at least five to eight cobras around me. The moment you become meditative, they are drawn to you." Sadhguru says that everything has been identified as per its reverberation and Rudraksha is one of those items that have a unique type of reverberation. "Just holding it in your hand, you can feel the difference. However, if you have worn your rudraksha for three to six months, it would have in a way melded with your body by now. Therefore, each person’s rudraksha will be different. That is why you should never give your rudraksha to someone else or take someone else’s rudraksha, because it would have acquired a certain reverberation that is conducive to you and that has something of you in it," says Sadhguru. Diving in further, Sadhguru says that Rudraksha has this quality of becoming a part of your body. "If you have worn it for one or two years, 24 hours a day, and one day, you take it off and try to sleep, you will not be able to sleep. It will feel as if a part of your body is missing, because the rudraksha has become a part of you and it functions like that – as an extra organ," he explains. His main emphasis is that Rudraksha is not limited to monks, meditators, or spiritual seekers. In fact, he believes that anyone navigating modern-day stress or mental overload can easily benefit from wearing it. From professionals dealing with high-pressure jobs to students seeking focus, the Rudraksha is presented as a simple yet effective support system.
